Madesimo - A Paradise for Ski Lovers!

Madesimo is a small compact high altitude village that lies close to the Swiss border, near to St Moritz and north of Lake Como.  It is located just 20KM from the apartment, so makes an ideal Winter holiday destination for anyone thats seeking a relaxing break in the snow.

Once discovered, skiers return year after year to Madesimo due to its reliable snow record, facilities and ski school, amongst other things.  With 29 individual pistes and 18 ski lifts, which can uplift 22,620 skiers and snowboarders per hour, you can see why it is so popular.

All ski lifts in the resort are accessible on foot from any place in Madesimo.  And since 1996 the resort has benefited from an underground funicular Ski Express which carries skiers, in just a few short minutes, to the upper ski area from Campdolcino.

The resort offers over 50KMs of Skiing on quality maintained pistes and has one of the most up to date lift systems in Europe to get you around the resort.

During the week you can enjoy the uncrowded slopes and a lack of lift queues, though the atmosphere gets more lively as the wealthy Milanese arrive for a weekend break.

The Ski area provides a mixture of runs for the intermediate skier, and there is an excellent beginners slope where you can experience those first turns under the expert guidance of the highly rated Ski School.

For the more accomplished skier there is a mix of black runs and the famous "Canalone" awaits you, which is reputed to be one of the toughest runs in Europe.

Madesimo's snowpark is located at 1800m on Aquerela. There are three jumps, rainbow rail, box and four additional rails. The pipe is 130m long, 20m wide and 4.5m high.  Boarders too can enjoy the high altitude powder fields below Pizzo Groppera or have fun on the natural hits along the trail edges as they descend below the treeline.

Because Madesimo is a high altitude village it has good snow from late November until late Spring.  It has excellent snow making facilities covering all the main pistes.  The village is compact so you're on the mountain in no time at all and there is a range of coffee shops, pizzerias, bars, parks for the children, an excellent choice of shops and you can even go ice skating!

Local produce to look out for in the food stores include salamis and cold meats, cheeses, cakes, red wines including Sforzato di Valtellina D.O.C.G, Valtellina Superiore D.O.C.G and Bianco Palazzo Vertemate Franchi as well as honey and beer.

If you fancy something different to skiing whilst in Madesimo, there are over 68km of skidoo trail that wind up to the Swiss border, the views as well as the ride are magnificent.
